Texas State University General Education Council (GEC) has primary responsibility for reviewing the General Education Core Curriculum and for recommending revisions of that curriculum.  When statewide core curriculum reforms were implemented in 1998-99, the council’s name was changed from the General Studies Council and its mission revised in Academic Affairs Policy and Procedure Statement 01.02.33. 

The Associate Vice President for Academic Success convenes the GEC, which meets at least three times each long semester.
